The great garden roto tiller debate - front
tine tiller, rear tines tiller, or a tow behind tiller.
Obviously depends on how big a garden you have and the area
you need the tiller to work in. We like the rear tine
tillers as they're less demanding on the back - the perfect
choice for garden tiller needs is the tow behind model like
the DR garden tiller shown below. Lots of good brand names
in garden tiller equipment - Mantis makes a nice little
tiller if you have a small garden area. Honda, Cub Cadet,
MTD, Troy Bilt and Craftsman are the most popular tiller
models. Getting tiller parts is a whole other issue. That's
why we recommend the units below - good tillers with ease of
use and not a problem to find replacement parts.
DR
Tow Behind Garden Roto-Hog Tiller -
They don't come easier to use! If you need
to relax while doing a large garden tiller job this is where
you need to be. This model will till a full three feet wide
area so you can till large areas in a snap. The most
powerful tow behind garden tiller we have reviewed - digs up
sod and clumps while creating a fine solil that's a perfect
base for your new garden plants. You can tow this model
behind your riding mower or ATV.
Mini
Garden Tiller - Electric Start Garden Tiller -
Best mini garden tiller! The electric start
DR Roto Hog mini garden tiller. Double the tiller power of
any other mini brand - allows you to get into small areas
while still giving you the power you need to till without
breaking your back. Anyone that has used those very small
garden tillers advertised on late night TV - knows they can
kill your back as they bounce all over - unless you till
loose dirt they're about worthless. This tiller is powerful
enough to dig and till hard dirt - without bouncing all
over. A full 43 CC engine with electric start and east to
use finger tip throttle controls.
Troy
Bilt Horse Garden Tiller- The name of this Troy Bilt
tiller model says it all - it's a horse all right - a work
horse when it comes to making quick work of large garden
tiller projects. Designed for large garden tiller needs
reviews claim they can till a garden the size of an acre in
under an hour! Easy start and lots of powerful features
makes this tiller a top rated unit for large garden tilling
- some reviews state they have 20+ years of use.
Troy
Bilt Pony Garden Tiller -
The Troy Bilt Pony 250 cc Tiller has forward
rotating tines and the plow like handles provide for an easy
grip while tilling. Rated one of the best Troy Bilt garden
tillers this tiller model is a must have if you're doing
large rows. Features easy to turn wheels that allow you to
move around easier than other tillers. Troy Bilt garden
tillers are known for durability and typically require
limited maintenance.
Agri-Fab Tow Behind
Garden Tiller -
The Agri-Fab ATV tiller can be towed behind
your ATV or riding lawn mower to make that garden tilling
job a little more tolerable this year. This Agri-Fab
Universal Tow Behind Tiller has a width of 36 inches and all
you need to make quick work of any tilling project is a
universal pin type hitch along with at least 12 HP of power
on your vehicle. The Agri-Fab tiller has a husky 5
horsepower engine which allows it to power through any tough
soil tilling job. That large thirty six inch tiller path
will let you get on to more important outdoor activities in
a hurry. This ATV tiller has controls that are very easy to
use and provides for a perfect area for gardens and planting
beds in a hurry with minimal effort.
Ardisam
Earthquake Rear Tines Tillers -
The Ardisam Earthquake Rear Tine Tiller
features a Viper 196 CC 4 cycle engine with a full sixteen
inch tiller width - and a deep ten inch tiller depth. The
rear tines on this model worked well and crunched up sod and
dirt clumps from the previous year in a hurry. Worked good
on all types of soil and was very easy to use.
Mantis Garden
Tillers -
Known for being a light and easy to use
garden tiller this model will work if you have a small
garden area to till. The Mantis tiller has been around for
about thirty years and we did not like the way it bounced
around on compacted soil. The reviews claim it will till ten
inches deep and it may - but on the garden we tested it on -
with hard clay and clumped dirt from the previous year - it
struggled to dig in without bouncing around. If you have a
small garden area and soil that is not hard - this model
will work. If you need a large area and have clumped soil -
we would recommend going to a more powerful tiller.
